The hammock may have been my most comfortable night’s sleep on this whole trip. The temperature was perfect, nature provided some cool music to fall asleep to, and the bugs stayed away.

A few of us went out to a nearby comedor for some breakfast. This particular place is well known for Fidelio, the pet monkey they have in the back. After we ordered our food, we went back and played with Fidelio and a very jealous looking dog.

Back at the hostel, a few of us took a quick dip into the lake to cool off from the intense heat. In the late afternoon, we walked up to a nearby hostel where they rent out horses. I was given Jirafo, so named for his great height. Five of us went out for a trot along the beach. Though I can’t really say I felt like I had any real control of the horse, it was still a great experience and a perfect way to see the lake and the island’s volcanoes.

Dinner was veggie lasagna and post-dinner was another acoustic guitar singalong under the stars. Aside from a close run-in with a scorpion for one of the Canadian ladies, it was a great night.
