Today, after breakfast, Alec and I went down and printed out and framed a copy of one of the family photos from the night before. It wad a great way to end our time with the family.

Around midday, we headed down to the chicken bus depot. For the uninitiated, a chicken bus is an old US school bus, painted all fancy, packed like a sardine can with people, and sent at unreasonable speed to far off destinations for impossibly cheap prices. They are absurdly overcrowded and notoriously confusing.

Our journey started off easily enough. We stuffed into the Chimaltenango bound bus where we thought we could transfer to Panajachel. Of course, when we got there, we ended up getting on a different bus, transferring again, and then still ending up a cab ride short of the docks in Panajachel. All in all, it was a fun and unique way to travel that I’m not eager to repeat any time soon (direct tourist shuttles end up being only about a dollar more expensive).

Once we did get there, we hopped on the lancha heading across the lake to San Pedro. We found a hostel, had some dinner (the street food in San Pedro is awesome) and went out to a bar or two. This seems like a cool town for a few days of relaxation.
